For all of the videos on this page, I’ve shot and edited them myself. On a typical shoot, I’m toting a 5D, 7D and a gimbal. For times when that’s just too bulky, I’ll use my phone instead. Most of the time, I’m the only one out on the shoot and zipping around to get shots of people interacting with the setting (and handling the audio, too, for interview-style pieces); occasionally, I’m lucky enough to have a coworker or friend come along to serve as a subject.
When it comes to editing (most recently in Adobe Premiere Pro, in previous years in Final Cut Pro 7 and X), I’m usually working with my own footage. However, occasionally I’ll comb through videos that have been shot by a coworker or assemble some provided or crowdsourced footage.
The bulk of the work seen here is from my tenure at Time Out—where, oddly enough, video isn’t technically even formally part of my job. In these cases, I’ve also handled sharing the finished videos on our social media accounts. Towards the bottom, I’ve also included selections from a video internship at KPCC, where I was either shooting solo or with a radio reporter who handled the audio, as well as some clips from college, including a collaborative project from a documentary class.
